Animal cupcakes

The influence of “Sex and the City” is bigger than we thought… In our post Little Black Swan we talked about tutu skirts that have become a fashionista must since Carrie wore one of them. Today, it’s time for cupcakes! In Spain they’ve also become very popular partially thanks to the chats that SATC girls had at the famous Magnolia Bakery.

There are thousands of beautiful cupcake pictures but today I’ve decided to share with you some of my own. I have to admit that I’m not the artist behind this artwork but they were served at my minimoi’s christening about one year ago.

They were handmade by Fabulous Baking & Co (in Barcelona) and they seem to me the perfect cupcakes for a kid party.

Their dough had different flavours (carrot cake, oreo,…) but the best was the outer decoration. I wanted a whole zoo so they looked like elephants, zebras, tigers, lions, bears, koalas, leopards and pandas.

So if you’re thinking of adding an original touch to your party, cupcakes are a sure bet, don’t you think?

Have a nice weekend!

P.S. Several friends kidnapped some of them to decorate their houses for a while. In fact these cupcakes were so cute that it was a pity to eat them…

Design tables for kids

mesa infantil diseño - minimoi

I’ve been thinking of buying a table for my minimoi for a while. She’s now 19 months old and is starting to draw her first artworks so I’ve thought of devoting some space as her “creative corner” to guarantee that the whole flat doesn’t end up becoming her “atelier”. Although I know I’ll end up buying a cheap and simple plastic table, I’ve surfed several design furniture sites just to dream a little bit.

One of the brands I’ve discovered is Buisjes En Beugels. This Dutch brand sells a wide range of kids’ furniture like the INSEKT Bureau and the Growing Table (which evolves with your minimoi). The Growing Table has some holes in its base that can be used to insert some accessories (no more pencils rolling down the table).

Shibafu Table is a design by Emmanuelle Moureaux. It’s not really a child table (impossible to put the legs under it) but it will for sure delight the most little ones with the effect of the colored feet on the acrylic base.

But if there’s something that kids love is to play with lights and shadows. People from Verpan know it well so they’ve created the Ilumesa that can also be used outdoors.

Designers with weird names are a sure bet… Check out these “Amazon trees” or the table with holes that turn a simple pencil into a decorative element.

Another brand to bear in mind is the American Offi that sells from chalkboard and foam tables to reeditions of design classics.

Old school fans can now choose between the modern reviewed version by knelt or the retro version by Ma pétite série déco while recycle freaks will be delighted by the cartboard Krooom table.

And finally check out the fun Daily Shelter for grown up kids that can be used either as a table or as a playhouse.

Do you stick to the plastic classics or are you more into a design table?

A rose and a customized tale

Today everyone will be talking about books: the best books of the year, the author of that book, th bestsellers books…It’s a pitty that some of us don’t remember that age when you talked about tales instead of books.

That’s why today’s post is about tales, so that you can rescue your minimoi’s spirit for a while…and also they are customizable tales! Where your little child can be the absolut star.

Let’s start with the tales from Cuentis, where you have many stories to choose and customize easily by filling some gaps on the pages with your writting. And it’s not only for children, there are also some for grandmothers!

This one about monsters is super cool, I think someday it’ll be a nice gift. The price is 30€ aprox.

At fabuloos dreams you can add a photo of your child and make him appear all over the tale, making him live incredible stories. They cost 35€ aprox.

And finally, for those who like audiobooks, Lali Rondalla offers customized audiobooks with your child’s name and songs to make it more fun. It costs 29€ aprox.

And as in my homeland it is Sant Jordi (St Georges), we have the tradition to give roses, I also leave you this fabulous DIY giant paper roses. Here you will find the complete tutorial.

And for those who don’t like muy DIYs, well you can always go to “au nom de la rose” and buy a nice basket full of roses like this, or some rose petals candies….mmm! I’m just giving some ideas…

I hope you all liked it and have a nice Sant Jordi!!!

The perfect rocking chair

At first, talking about a rocking chair can seem a bit grandma-style, but this is because you may not be thinking of the Charles&Ray Eames RAR chair.

I don’t know why but lately I have seen it almost everywhere, and mainly at nurseries where it fits perfectly. Maybe that’s because the nursery is the place where it belongs: I’m sure many mums and dads may have sat there to calm their babies with its soft swing.

Since 1950, when it was created, this design’s classic has been copied thousand of times, and some copies are better than others but without any doubt they are much cheaper than the original one (which is about 400€ and you can find it at Vitra shops).

Here you have some websites where you can find really good replicas at reasonable prices:

- Really nice things (99€)

- Decora tu alma (110€)

- Mueblespacio (92,04€)

And here, some examples so you can start “visualizing” how good they could look at your minimoi’s nursery.

Although they look good on their own, it’s always better to add a little personal touch with some teddy-pillow or a sweet blanket.

The white one looks good everywhere.

And how about the tiny little one on the right? Isn’t it cuuute?  Also look at those garlands hanging from the ceiling from both rooms…I’m sure we will talk about that in som future posts.

And now…let’s swing!

Stylish picnic

picnic arbol - minimoi

If there’s one thing I like from northern countries is their capability to take advantage of the thinest sunshine ray. I’ve always been astonished on how parks, gardens and fields get invaded by people when the sun comes out.

On the other hand, in Spain we’re so used to nice weather that we always take it for granted and we don’t make the most of it (a couple of cañas in a terrace are more than enough).

So one of my objectives for this year is to prepare an open air picnic (british-alike). In fact I don’t have neither a picnic basket, nor a blanket or nice light and unbreakable dishes. So, I promise to do some research on that and publish all of my findings.

For the moment, I leave you with these nice pics I’ve found. I will use them for sure as my picnic inspiration.

Let’s start with the first picture. I love the white and red squared blanket. It’s a classic, I know, but it looks great.

Next picnic looks like taken from a magazine shooting.

If you want to see more images don’t forget to visit the blog De Alma e Coração. This video is also from them:

For those who love details here come some ideas: colorful pillows, flower bouquets, paper lights and even decorated napkins (very pro).

And if you’re sea addicts, you can also prepare a nice picnic by the sea like these via Inspiration for Home.

I hope you enjoyed this selection and you also join the “picnic fan club”. It will delight for sure your minimois. Although with so many things to bring maybe I’ll end up needing a van…

¡Happy weekend!

Original chocolate easter eggs

If there is something I love more than being on holidays during the Holy Week is to walk around Barcelona street’s and see the “ easter monas” at the bakery’s windows.

Every year they get better and they adapt to the most popular themes amongst kids: this year for example it’s full of Sponge Bob’s “monas”, Monster High’s and Smurf’s.

Since I’m too old to recieve “monas” anymore (altought I clearly remember a snorkel mona that I recieved when I was a Kid) I now have begun to look at chocolate easter eggs.

There are many original chocolate eggs, even as good as “monas”; and some of them are almost pieces of art. Here you have a selection of the ones I’ve liked the most.

Let’s start with a “cat-egg”: this funny fortune cat from Xocoa, which they say is useful to get the crisis away from us.I wish it was true…

Even if it’s hard to get, this Mr. Potato from Harvey Nichols seems to me a brilliant idea.

From a Valencia Bakery called Llopis, there is this funny series of Wizard of Oz eggs.

More “fashionable” ones are thes from Pancracio, and the Godiva ones for trendsetters, popular, and brainiacs…

For those who care more about a good chocolate, you must visit Cacao Sampaka, with its spectacular super egg that weights 250kg (of course you also have a small replica of it). And these from Chocolat Factory also look good.

What would an egg be without a chicken and its little chicken? At Forn de Sant Jaume (rambla catalunya 50) you can find these cute rubber-like ducks.

At Mary’s Market, the gourmet shop at bulevard rosa, they have this strange flat eggs from Bcn cookies. They are made of chocolate with rice and at the center they have a vanilla cookie…yummy!

And finally a great idea to do with the kids: the pinta mona set from xocoa; which includes a big chocolate egg, an apron, a chef’s hat, and some fondant coloured chocolates to paint and decorate the egg as you like.

Another option are the  egg-shaped “kukis”with sugar markers.

After all the “eggpedition” I have bought the sweetest easter egg on earth…this xocoa egg with candies! Sugar rocks!!

Have a nice Easter holidays!

Summer clothes with animals for kids

In our first post on “minilooks” (here) we asked for some suggestions on looks you would like us to find. In one comment Ona asked for ideas for his son’s birthday party on animal theme, particularly for a safari look.

So what came to my mind at first was the summer 2012 collection of Monikako. We met one of the mums that is behind of this project at Little Barcelona and she told us this collection was inspired by a trip to Africa done by her partner a few years ago.

We also like the Swedish brand mini rodini specially the saharian coat. You can find some of these items at Tiny Barcelona.

Coming back to national brands, don’t forget nadadelazos. And check out the elephant t-shirt because something tells us that is going to become very popular.

At nobodinoz you can also find a selection of interesting brands. A great choice for Roger is the jacket with bear ears from Talc.

And at last, two more brands we discovered at Little Barcelona. Lola for kids with their sweet t-shirts and manimal world who create different products with the animal drawing of your choice.

We hope you enjoyed our selection Ona and that Roger has loads of fun in his birthday animal party!
